Sled Dog Skippy

R.I.P. Xerox

Today the boss lady put down a 15 year old dog, Xerox, brother to sweet Buffy. He was a fantastic lead dog and breeder in his heyday (long before I got here). He was a very sweet and active boy all summer, although he did go through bouts of “I swear, I am NOT eating that kibble AGAIN” while his girlfriends were in heat. Easily distracted, I guess you could say. He certainly charmed everyone who met him and always wanted attention.

He started coughing a couple of months ago and we thought he’d have a steady decline into congestive heart failure. His coughing seemed to stop, but then so did his appetite. In his last days he slept constantly, vomited anything given to him, and was very thin.

I know that it was very difficult for the boss to have such a great puppy-dad & friend euthanized. I met her at the vet in town to say goodbye and made sure that he had some selenite (a mineral) pressed up against him in his final moments. My friend MK has always told me that selenite is a “good traveling crystal.” So here’s to Xerox–just like the others, I know he is still traveling, still running.

Glad I was able to meet him and spend some quality time “helping him shed” while we were in AK. I’m sure the ladies will miss him too.
